Review Of Some World Cup 2014 Related Crazes
1986 is the year when I, for the first time, got the
taste of craze of FIFA World Cup. Earlier I could know something of it only through
newspaper or our text book. Then, the world famous Brazilian striker Pele was
the hero of us. But in the World Cup’ 86 we could know about the Argentine
super star Diego Maradona. Actually, we could know him before the World Cup
through TV. Then he used to play in Italian League. We also watched the play of
some other great footballers like Root Gulit, Van Basten (Netherland), Mular,
Cleansman (West Germany), Alamau, careca (Brazil) and so on. However, at that
time Maradona was the most popular. And thus, we became the supporter of
Argentina. At that time, we were teenagers and we could very well feel how and
how much craze can World Cup create among the football fans especially among
the young generation. Now many years have passed and instead of Maradona,
today, his country boy, Messy has become the hero of football world. He has
been able to create the same craze among the football fans. Everywhere he had
been discussed on the occasion of the World Cup for his outstanding performance
in the European Club Cup competition. Almost all the football specialists
thought that like Maradona in ’86, Messy would win the World Cup Football’
2014. They, of course, did everything but failed to smile for the last time. It
was Germany that won the World Cup-2014. However, for the huge advancement of
information technology, we all know very well how and what happened in the last
FIFA World Cup. Today I’m not going to discuss the football matches or any
football player any more. Rather I like to express some remarkable incidents or
crazes that are really exceptional. The most remarkable news about the recent
FIFA World Cup is that a farmer in Bangladesh who is a supporter of Germany,
has sold his land and has made a three kilometers long flag of Germany with
that money. The German ambassador has visited him and made him a life time
member of German Football Fan Club for his outstanding craze for German
Football Team. What may be the reaction of such kind of activity? Can we
support such kind of craze or emotion? Answer may vary from person to person.
But my personal view is that we can’t support or appreciate such kind of
foolish activity. We can see many small, medium even big size flags of
different countries hoisted on top of the houses, offices and shops. It is
natural and it happens all over the world. It reminds us that World Cup is
coming or it is going on. But in case of the farmer, it is really a foolish
deed since the too long flag does not bring any benefit either for him or for
his supported team. It is merely a loss of time, money and energy. I can remind
such kind of another incident that happened 24 years ago when Maradona, in the
World Cup 1990, was shown red card in a mach. The blind supporters of Maradona
in Bangladesh called “hartal” (strike) against that decision in some parts of
the country. It was proved unnecessary. What a strange country it is! Another
thing that I cannot but say is the quarreling or the fighting between the
supporters of Brazil and Argentina. Now a days, it has become very much
disgusting. Very often they start quarreling, fighting and sometimes they are
even killed. One surprising news in Bangladesh is that one supporter of Brazil
team has changed his supporting team through affidavit after defeated by seven
goals with Germany. How ridiculous! However, at the very beginning of this World
Cup, I noticed a sad news in the newspaper that a boy was died by electric
shock while hoisting a flag. It shocked me. I want to request my readers to
keep this news in their heads and make the children alert about the matter
during World Cup. Another thing that I should mention here is that the use of
electricity rises up at the time of World Cup. At that time, the authority remains
in pressure to cope with the demand. If we are a bit careful, we can save a lot
of electricity. And for this, if it is possible, we should watch TV in a group
instead of using it personally.
